What is mergercite?

Merger cite is a free-time project and zero budget project, inspired by discussions with economists at the CET of DG COMP about a lack of a platform that would allow quick and smooth search to uncover connections between cases. This project aims to provide such service to the competition community by mapping the citation landscape between merger Decisions at the DG COMP of the European Commission.

How do I use the mergercite database?

Go to the search tool and browse. Leaving the search field empty, you can browse all cases. Filling out a case number or typing a name of a company, all cases matching the criterion will be shown. You can explore basic case information ('Case info' tab), backward references ('Backward' tab), or forward references ('Forward' tab). For a detailed intro, see a twitter thread.

If you want to visualize the citation links, go to the visualization tab. There, you can pick a specific space (filing in the case number) and see how all citations relating to the case connect to it as well as how they are connected between each other. This given you thus an idea about how dense the citation network of a case is.
